We’ve all heard different versions of this usual story, but the message is universal : A family gets torn apart because of an illicit affair. Lives are ruined, innocence is lost, and no one comes out a winner. It is a story that is closer to home for Emily Apostol Alvarez, having gone that road before after her much publicized separation with former Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez. This Christmas, Apostol Alvarez chooses to make a reminder about the importance of family, not just in light of the holiday season, but in living our lives.

Apostol Alvarez, the representative of 2019 May elections running partylist METRO, speaks candidly in this Christmas greeting video: “Sa mga natutukso, at nanunukso, may oras pa para magbago.” (For those who are tempted, and for those who tempt, there is still time to change.) METRO partylist is putting family at the center of its campaign, with a slogan that encompasses its thrust for its platform–pamilya ang sentro (family is at the center).

In the video created by the METRO Partylist group, a family can be seen enjoying breakfast together

However, outside of the home, the head of the family is plagued by temptation

The father’s will is tested, but triumphs in the end due in part to his strong love for his family

Since her separation, Apostol Alvarez’s mission has become a reflection of her personal experience. Her advocacy, which METRO will be carrying out, is expected to be family-centric. Apostol Alvarez posits that no family should have to go through the distresses of being caught in the middle of marital problems, such as adultery.
