DFA: No Filipinos hurt in Syria gas attack

MANILA, Philippines—No Filipinos were hurt in a toxic gas attack in Aleppo, Syria last month, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) reported on Tuesday.

More than 100 individuals were treated at hospitals after a suspected poison gas attack launched by rebels at the northern city of Aleppo last Nov. 24.

The DFA also said that the 85 Filipinos based in Aleppo were safe from the incident.

Charge d’Affaires Alex Lamadrid of the Philippine Embassy in Damascus advised the Filipino community in Syria to remain vigilant and “to continuously monitor developments.”

Lamadrid added they should avoid areas of Jamyet Alzahraa, Al-Khalidyeh and Al-Neil Street in Aleppo, which had been targeted by rebels. /jpv
