The Philippines has condemned the terrorist attack in Pakistan that killed nearly 40 people, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

In a statement, the DFA said that the country is one with the international community in denouncing all forms of terrorism.

“The Philippines denounces the 23 November terrorist attacks on the Chinese Consulate in Karachi and on an open air market in Orakzai in Pakistan that left close to 40 persons dead,” the department said Saturday.

“The Philippines stands with the rest of the world in condemning terrorism in all its forms as well as attacks against diplomatic and consular agents and premises, and remains ready to cooperate with the international community to prevent and address such threats to international peace and security,” it added.

On Friday, armed separatists went to the Chinese Consulate in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi and fired shots.

Despite the attack, Chinese diplomats and staff at the consulate were safe and were not harmed during the hourlong shootout.
