US foundation gives hearing aids to 1,000 Pampanga folk

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The United States-based Starkey Hearing Foundation started distributing free hearing aids valued at P75 million to 1,000 residents in Pampanga over the weekend.

On Sunday (Nov. 4), Starkey founders William and Tani Austin and Vice Gov. Dennis Pineda handed out the devices to recipients in the province’s third and fourth districts.

The Austins also led the opening of the Pampanga Ear and Hearing Center at the Diosdado Macapagal Provincial Memorial Hospital in Guagua town.

Starkey is said to be the largest hearing foundation in the world, helping three million people in more than 100 countries.

Starkey brought its community-based hearing health care program to the province in cooperation with Dr. Salve Olalia and Dr. Roberto Ang of the University of Santo Tomas Hospital. TONETTE OREJAS
