The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Saturday has assured the Filipino community in the Northern Marianas of assistance in the wake of the devastation brought by Typhoon “Yutu.”
According to the DFA, it would be sending personnel from the Philippine Consulate General in Agana to the islands of Tinian and Rota to check on the situation of the Filipinos.
The islands of Tinian and Rota were devastated by Yutu. Some 600 Filipinos reside in Tinian while there are 300 Filipinos in Rota, the DFA said.
Earlier, the DFA sent a two-man team to look into the situation of the 15,000 Filipinos in Saipan which was also hit by “Yutu.”
Consul General Marciano de Borja said the consulate has distributed relief assistance to at least 600 Filipinos in Saipan who were directly affected by the typhoon.
De Borja also thanked the government of Saipan for the assistance it gave to the Filipino community in the wake of the typhoon. /muf
