Denmark police rescue 22 ‘maltreated’ Filipino drivers
The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday thanked Denmark for rescuing 22 Filipino truck drivers who were reported to have been living and working in deplorable conditions in the Nordic country.
In a report to Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., the Philippine embassy in Norway, which has jurisdiction over Denmark, said the Filipinos were rescued by Danish police who raided a camp in Padborg, a town on the border with Germany, on Tuesday morning.
On the request of Ambassador Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III ordered a labor attaché, Delmer Cruz, to go to the Danish capital, Copenhagen, to look into the Filipinos’ welfare. —Jerome Aning
