No Filipinos in deadly limousine crash in New York – DFA

No Filipino fatalities were reported in a New York car crash in which 20 people died last Sunday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement issued late Monday.

The DFA, meanwhile, extended its sympathies to the families of those died in what has been described as the deadliest transportation accident in the United States in almost a decade.

According to a report by the Philippine Consulate General in New York submitted to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, all 18 passengers in a stretch limousine died along with two pedestrians after the vehicle traveling southwest on State Route 30 failed to stop at an intersection and struck an unoccupied sports utility vehicle.

The Consulate General checked with hospitals in Albany, but there were no reports that the fatalities included any of the estimated 125,000 Filipinos in New York State, Consul General Claro Cristobal said. /atm
