No Filipinos were hurt when a 5.3-magnitude earthquake jolted northern Hokkaido in Japan, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed late Friday night.
Philippine Ambassador to Japan Jose Laurel V told Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano that they would continue to oversee the condition of 1,800 Filipinos living in the island.
Laurel added that there were no tsunami warning issued by authorities and the Chitose Airport in Hokkaido was operating normally.
In a report from Radyo Inquirer, the US Geological Survey said the earthquake hit the island on Friday morning. Last Sept. 6, a 6.7-magnitude earthquake also struck the island. /jpv
