Over 100 distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Abu Dhabi were repatriated by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Thursday.
In a statement, the DFA said Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Hjayceelyn Quintana has reported the
the repatriation of the 126 OFWs. This was the fifth mass repatriation conducted by the Philippine Embassy under the UAE amnesty program.
The repatriation brings the total number of Filipinos flown home by the Philippine Embassy to 1,765 since January 2018.
The DFA said they are assisting Filipinos affected by the UAE immigration amnesty program to choose whether to stay in the UAE or be repatriated.
The UAE is implementing a three-month amnesty period from August 1 to Oct. 31 that offers overstaying expatriates the opportunity to rectify their immigration status and apply for a six-month long jobseeker’s visa or return to their home countries with their immigration fees waived. /muf
