The Bureau of Immigration (BI) will deport two foreign fugitives who are wanted for various crimes in their homeland.
The Immigration’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) arrested the two foreigners in separate operations in Manila and Las Piñas City.
BI FSU Chief Bobby Raquepo identified the suspects as Go Yangsung, 48, a Korean national; and Lian Lilong, a 36-year-old Chinese national.
Go was arrested on September 25 in his residence along Vanessa Street in Las Piñas City. He was also wanted for large-scale fraud and is facing an arrest warrant issued by the Suwon district court in Korea.
Documents from Korean authorities showed that between December 2015 and June 2016, Go and five other suspects defrauded other Koreans of more than 37 billion worth of South Korean won in a pyramid scam using a company they operated in Pasay City.
They allegedly convinced victims by promising that their investments would lead to huge profits through buying bitcoins that turned out to be non-existent.
Meanwhile, Lian was nabbed last October 1 in his room at the Lido de Paris Hotel in Binondo, Manila. The Chinese Embassy sought the arrest of Lian who was allegedly wanted by the Beijing authorities for “economic crimes.”
Lian and his four Chinese cohorts faced a summary deportation order by the BI for being fugitives from justice. The other four remain at large and are being tracked down by FSU operatives.
Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente warned foreign criminals staying in the country, saying they will be deported to their homelands.
“We reiterate our warning to all foreign criminals who are hiding in the country. The long arm of the law will eventually catch you and we will send you back to your homelands so you will be meted punishment for your crimes.” Morente said. /je
