Callamard: ‘Duterte’s only sin is destroying rule of law’

United Nations Special Rapporteur Agnes Callamard on Thursday said the “only sin” President Rodrigo Duterte had committed was to “impose sufferings, emboldening corrupt policies and destroying rule of law in the Philippines.”

Callamard, a known critic of the President’s war on drugs, slammed the President’s statement that his only sin was extrajudicial killings as collateral in the war against illegal drugs.

“Extraordinary statement by a Head of State (and we have had many this week at the UN): my “only” sin is #EJK.  Translation: my only sin is imposing unthinkable sufferings on 1000s of vulnerable families, emboldening corrupt policing, destroying rule of law,” Callamard wrote in her Twitter post.

The President admitted on Thursday that his only sin was the extrajudicial killings as collateral in his administration’s war against illegal drugs.

“Ako I will talk to a political exercise now. What are your sins? Ako? Sabi ko nga sa military, ano kasalanan ko? Nagnakaw ba ako diyan ni piso? Did I prosecute somebody na pinakulong ko?  Ang kasalanan ko lang ‘yung mga extrajudicial killing,” he added but did not elaborate on his statement.

INQUIRER.net was reaching the Palace for comment on Callamard’s statement as of posting.  /muf
