No Filipinos have been reported among the 167 fatalities of a Tanzanian ferry accident, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

“The Embassy has so far not received any report of Filipinos among the casualties in the tragedy,” the DFA said in a statement late Saturday night.

Philippine Ambassador to Kenya Norman Garibay said the embassy was monitoring rescue and retrieval operations in Lake Victoria.

The DFA extended its condolences to the Tanzanian people following the tragedy.

“The Philippines expressed its condolences to Tanzania after an overloaded ferry capsized in Lake Victoria on Thursday, leaving more than a hundred people dead,” it said. /cbb
