AMMAN— President Rodrigo Duterte will return to the Philippines on Friday night, a day earlier than his scheduled trip home, Malacañang said Thursday.
“His official engagements will be finished [by that time],” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said at the sidelines of a business forum here.
Duterte was originally scheduled to fly back to the Philippines on Saturday night (Philippine time.) With his return trip set earlier, the President will arrive in Davao City on Saturday morning instead of Sunday morning.
Roque, however, said there was “no” special reason for the President’s earlier trip back home.
Duterte’s schedule released to the media delegation showed the President has no schedule on Saturday except for his flight back home.
The President’s last schedule here is a meeting with the Filipino community at the Royal Cultural Palace at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Duterte is coming home as the Philippine economy is experiencing a nine-year high 6.4 percent inflation, mounting criticisms for voiding opposition Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV’s presidential amnesty, and a blast that rocked a town in the province of Sultan Kudarat in Mindanao. /ee
