THE clamor to make Mandaue City a lone district is beginning to gain support.

Provincial Board (PB) Member Arleigh Sitoy of the 6th district of Cebu yesterday urged Rep. Gabriel Luis Quisumbing of Cebu’s 6th district to already file the bill that will convert the city into a lone district.

Sitoy said the filing of the bill will start a discussion on what will happen to the neighboring towns of Consolacion and Cordova.

“File now and let’s work together and plan for a better future for Consolacion, Cordova and Mandaue regardless kon unsay tinuohan niya, ma-Sabadisda ba o One Cebu ba o Liberal Party ba,” Sitoy said.

Sitoy said if Mandaue City becomes a lone district, Consolacion can be made part of the 5th district.

Cordova town where he came from could also be made part of the lone district of Lapu-Lapu especially if a plan to also convert Olango Island into a town is approved.

Sitoy said he is also in favor of redistricting the entire Cebu province saying, the number of congressmen representing Cebu is no longer proportionate with its present population.

He said Cebu needed more representation in Congress.

Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes and majority of the barangay captains have been asking Quisumbing to sponsor a bill that would allow the city’s conversion into a lone district.

But Quisumbing said filing the bill is not yet economically and legally feasible as the remaining towns could not stand as a district.
