EU to extend €150K aid to areas hit by typhoons

The European Union (EU) will extend €150K or approximately P9.2 million worth of emergency aid for areas struck by recent typhoons in the country, it announced Tuesday.

In a statement, the EU said the emergency aid will help around 30,000 people through cash grants and relief items to include food, water, emergency kits, and blankets, among others.

“This EU funding supports the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in delivering much needed relief assistance through the distribution of essential relief items,” the statement read.

Around 400,000 have been displaced while 10,000 others remain in evacuation centers nationwide after recent typhoons and the southwest monsoon triggered floods in the country, it added.

The funding is part of the EU’s contribution to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

“Relief assistance is an expression of European solidarity towards people in need around the world,” it read.

The EU helps over 120 million victims of conflict and disasters worldwide every year, according to EU. /muf
