NAGA CITY — Vice President Leni Robredo hopes the Philippines will continue nurturing its ties with Spain, which colonized the country for more than 300 years, from 1521 to 1898.

Robredo made the remark in a brief speech on Saturday as a guest of honor at the grand reopening of Que Pasa, a Spanish restaurant in this city. The event coincided with the 16th celebration of Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day.

“So we hope to continue nurturing and building warmer ties between our two countries, whether it involves creating more opportunities in investment, trade and commerce, or pushing a deeper appreciation of our shared heritage through various modes of engagement, tourism, cultural events, education and the arts,” she said.

“Since the end of the Spanish era, we have shared so many responsibilities together which we will be sharing in the coming years,” she added.
