The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday condoled with the families of four Filipinos who perished in two car accidents in Saudi Arabia and Canada that also injured six other Filipinos.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of our kababayan who perished in the recent road accidents in Saudi Arabia and Canada,” Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said in a statement.
He said he is hoping for the speedy recovery of those who were injured in the accidents.
DFA committed to provide the necessary assistance to the victims’ families, including the repatriation of their remains.
On June 13, two Filipino workers were killed and three others were injured in an accident near the Jizan City in Saudi Arabia, the Philippine Consulate General in Jedda reported.
According to Consul General Edgar Badajos, the victims were on their way to buy food for their Eid al-Fitr celebration when a sports utility vehicle driven by a Saudi national rammed into the van they were in.
In Canada, a Filipino couple from Lethbridge, Alberta died in an accident along Elizabeth II highway on June 10.
Consul General Gilberto Asuque said the accident injured the couple’s three children who were on board a vehicle that slammed into an overpass pillar near Highway 27, about 110 kilometers from Calgary. /ee
