The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the remains of Henry John Acorda, the Filipino worker who died after being mauled in Slovakia, will arrive in Manila on Tuesday.
The Slovak government aircraft carrying Acorda’s remains left Bratislava on Monday and is expected to arrive at 11:00 a.m. in Manila on Tuesday.
DFA said Philippine Ambassador to Vienna Ma. Cleofe Natividad was expected to accompany the remains and Acorda’s mother and two siblings.
Accorda was attacked after he tried to protect a Filipina companion from harassment. The 36-year-old financial analyst died at a hospital five days after the incident.
The suspect is now in jail for manslaughter charges, according to DFA.
DFA had previously hailed Acorda as “a hero who came to the rescue of defenseless.”

The repatriation of Acorda’s remains came more than a week after thousands of Slovaks trooped to the streets of the capital city of Bratislava to support calls for justice for Acorda. /vvp
