The historic summit between the United States President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “augurs well” for peace and stability in the region, Malacañang said on Wednesday.
“We welcome the landmark summit between US President Donald Trump and DPRK leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.
“This development, which has underscored in the strongest terms the value of diplomacy and peaceful dialogue, augurs well for the peace, security and stability in the region and the world,” Roque added.
Trump and Kim met in Singapore on Tuesday in what the US leader described as a summit that helped bring back the world from a possible “nuclear catastrophe.”
Trump said there have been “lot of progress” after the talk as the two leaders signed a document, which has not been made public yet.
Roque said the Philippines was ready to support outcome of the summit, saying it was “the beginning of a process.”
“History has indeed been written. At the same time, this is but the beginning of a process. The Philippines is ready and willing to lend its support toward bringing it to fruition,” he said. /je
