KAWIT, Cavite – Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana admitted on Tuesday that he was annoyed with the report that members of Chinese Coast Guard have been taking the catch of Filipino fishermen at Scarborough Shoal.
Lorenzana was seen talking to Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua inside the Aguinaldo House here before the start of the Independence Day program.
The defense chief was seen repeatedly pointing his finger at Zhao during their conversation.
“Siyempre ipakita kong inis din tayo sa mga ganyang pangyayari,” he told INQUIRER.net in a text message.
(Of course, I would have to show that we are also displeased about such incidents.)
During an interview with reporters after the event, Zhao refused to disclose their discussion.
“May I say it’s confidential,” he told reporters.
But Lorenzana said he raised his concerns over the Scarborough incident with Zhao.
“We discussed about the Filipino fishermen’s complaint na kinukuha ng Chinese Coast Guard ang mga huli nila,” Lorenzana said.
Lorenzana then disclosed that Zhao assured him that “they are investigating” the incident. /kga/ac
