Bello orders POEA to issue guidelines on OFW Kuwait deployment

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III has ordered the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to issue guidelines on the processing and deployment of Filipino domestic workers to Kuwait.

Bello made the directive to the POEA after the officials of the Philippine and Kuwaiti governments signed a protection pact which ensures the safety of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) in the Gulf state.

“The POEA is hereby directed to issue the appropriate guidelines for the processing and deployment of domestic workers,” the Labor chief said in Administrative Order No. 254-A signed on May 17, Thursday.

Malacañang on Wednesday announced that President Rodrigo Duterte had ordered Bello to lift the total ban on the deployment of Filipino workers to Kuwait, including domestic helpers.

According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, President Duterte’s order to lift the total ban was on the recommendation of Special Envoy to Kuwait Abdullah Mama-o. /muf
