European Union (EU) Ambassador to the Philippines Franz Jessen on Sunday joined the nation in mourning the passing of former Senate President Edgardo “Edong” Angara.
“I am saddened to hear that Senator Ed Angara, a statesman and a good friend, has passed away,” Jessen said in a statement.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family,” he added.
Jessen remembered Angara as “a great patriot and a true friend of the EU.”
In May 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Angara as the country’s special envoy to the EU.
On Sunday, Senator Sonny Angara announced the death of his father “from an apparent heart attack.”
