The US Embassy in the Philippines hosted a 10-day drug treatment and rehabilitation training in the country as part of its drug demand reduction efforts.

The embassy on Thursday said they partnered with the Dangerous Drugs Board, 30 representatives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), and selected universities.

The training, a component of the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, was held from April 16 to 26. It was the first of six planned training sessions in the country.

The participants were introduced to the Colombo Plan, the globally recognized standard for drug abuse treatment.

It also helps member countries to “formulate drug policy and advocates for evidence-based practices in the prevention and treatment of substance abuse.”

The embassy said the Colombo Plan has conducted similar training events in more than 40 countries.  /je
