Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero protested on Thursday Kuwait’s reported move to go after rescued overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), calling it “uncalled for” and “unwarranted.”
“After PRRD’s apology despite the fact that our embassy officials were only doing their job protecting Filipinos against abusive employers, I think that is uncalled for and unwarranted,” Escudero said in text message.
PRRD is the initial of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
“What about their national that abused and committed a crime and/or human rights violations against our national?!?! Was he/she ever held to account for his/her actions by the Kuwaiti government?” Escudero asked.
The Philippine government has apologized after its embassy conducted a mission to rescue distressed Filipino housemaids in Kuwait.

The embassy had also released a video, showing its staff members supposedly enticing Filipino housemaids in Kuwait to leave their employers and return to the Philippines.
On Wednesday, after protesting the controversial rescue mission, the Kuwaiti government ordered Philippine Ambassador Renato Villa to leave Kuwait within a week.
