The family of overseas worker Melody Castro, who died in the Feb. 6 Taiwan earthquake, has received P3.8 million in compensation from the Taiwan government and its people.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (Teco), Taiwan’s de facto embassy in Manila, said P3.2 million came from the government, insurance claims and donations.

Teco officials also handed over to the family on Tuesday another P600,000 that was collected from the local Taiwanese community.

Castro was killed when their 12-storey apartment building collapsed during the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that hit the city of Hualien.
