With little hands ready to make big differences, Filipinos across the globe were urged to participate in the observance of this year’s “Earth Hour,” an annual light switch-off event intended to raise awareness on climate change.
Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque on Saturday said the participation of Filipinos in the global event, which would be held from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., would symbolize “our commitment to saving Mother Earth.”
Roque said Filipinos can participate wherever they would be during the hour-long event such as their homes or even in their workplaces.
“One simple step we make, when taken all together, leads to a big stride for the entire human race. Let us join the entire world as it shines a light upon the importance of climate action by going dark,” the presidential spokesman said in a statement.
Climate change, Roque said, was an issue “relevant to the Philippines” as he stressed the need to take action as well as to promote sustainable energy consumption.
“Our country has been identified as among the most vulnerable to the impact of climate change. The President has recognized this and has made the protection of the environment a priority during his State of the Nation Address,” Roque said.
“We encourage the entire Filipino nation to take part in this collective human effort to save our planet from the ill effects of Global Warming,” he said. /muf
