Duterte names Gibo’s wife Prieto-Teodoro as Unicef envoy

President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed a former Tarlac politician and socialite as the Philippine’s representative to the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

In the appointment paper dated March 7, and released on Friday, Duterte named former Tarlac 1st District Rep. Monica “Nikki” Prieto-Teodoro as the country’s special envoy to the Unicef.

Her term began on Sept. 26, 2017, and will end Sept. 27, 2018.

Prieto-Teodoro, in August last year, made a donation to the military in a philanthropic initiative.

She is the wife of former Defense Sec. Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, whom Duterte once wooed to be part of his Cabinet.

Teodoro declined the offer, prompting Duterte to appoint now Defense Sec. Delfin Lorenzana. /jpv
