Around 580 overseas Filipino workers (OFW) from Kuwait have arrived in Manila, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday.
The OFWs who were granted amnesty arrived in Manila via Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines.
Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered a total deployment ban on Kuwait following the death of Joanna Demafelis, the OFW who was found dead in a freezer.
Duterte also said that the ban might be extended to other countries.
“The ban will continue and it will extend to other countries. Mahirapan sila, well, humihingi na ako ng tawad sa inyo. I will not allow … Hindi … Wala akong plano na ipadala kayo doon tapos [bababuyin] kayo. Hindi ko style yan,” he said in a speech on Tuesday at the Manila Hotel.
