Body of OFW murdered in Kuwait arrives in Manila

The remains of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Joanna Demafelis, who was found dead inside a freezer in Kuwait, arrived in Manila on Friday morning.

A Radyo Inquirer  990AM report said Demafelis’ body arrived via Gulf Air flight GF 154 at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) Terminal 1 at around 10:40 a.m.

Demafelis is the OFW who was believed to be murdered and stuffed inside a freezer in Kuwait City.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has said that the remains of Demafelis would be flown to Iloilo on Saturday.

In a statement released through the DFA on Thursday, Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait, Rene Villa, said Kuwaiti authorities had yet to find the Lebanese and Syrian employers of Demafelis.

The case of Demafelis and other reported abuses among OFWs have prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to impose a total employment ban of OFWs in Kuwait. /jpv
