Senator Bam Aquino has raised alarm over the continuous militarization of the South China Sea, as he also lamented how the government “kept (the public) in the dark” on the massive developments in the seven reefs claimed by the Philippines in the Spratly archipelago.
Aquino referred to an exclusive report by the Inquirer which revealed that several authentic aerial photos of China’s “almost finished transformation” of seven disputed reefs in the South China Sea into air and naval bases.

“Nakakabahalang makita na halos kumpleto na ang base militar ng Tsina sa West Philippine Sea,” Aquino said on Monday.
“While their war ships are in our seas, we continue to give in to their whims and, all the while, we are kept in the dark as to our government’s dealings with China,” he added.
The senator has also called on the Senate to act on the resolution he filed in September 2016, which seeks to investigate the Philippines’ foreign policy direction, particularly with China.
“Panahon nang ibunyag ng administrasyon ang kanilang panukala sa Tsina at ilantad kung ano ang ating isinusuko sa kanila,” he said. /kga
