The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) cautioned the public against con artists who dupe unsuspecting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their relatives claiming their benefits from the agency.
Owwa administrator Hans Leo Cacdac issued the alarm on Twitter. “Please avoid scammers and fixers who pretend to be in a position to process Owwa benefits for OFWs,” Cacdac said.
Con artists reportedly pretend to be accredited agents of the Owwa and offer to help OFWs get their benefits from Owwa.
Cacdac said Owwa had received reports of fixers claiming they could help expedite the processing of Owwa benefits for a P6,000 “processing” fee. —Julie M. Aurelio
