OFW requirement: Lifting of OEC suspension set

07:00 AM December 04, 2017

The Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) is expected to lift today its suspension order on the processing of overseas employment certificate (OEC) for prospective overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Labor Undersecretary Dominador Say said they would release an advisory lifting the suspension and allowing the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) to resume processing new OECs.

An OEC is a requirement for OFWs so they could leave for work abroad.

Last month, the Dole ordered the suspension following reports that some POEA personnel were conniving with unscrupulous recruiters in illegal activities. —Tina G. Santos
