800 runners enlist for Hunat Sugbo Dagan Para ni Maning

SOME 800 runners have already enlisted for the Hunat Sugbo: Dagan para ni Maning of Parklane International Hotel that will unfold this Sunday at the Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu.

Veteran race director Raffy Uytiepo said that they are hoping to sign up more than 1,200 runners even if there is a fun run slated at the SRP a day before the event.

The race will feature the 15-kilometer and 5k categories and is held as a tribute to Manuel Ting who served as Parklane International Hotel’s president before he was killed.

Uytiepo said that no less than Cebu’s newest running queen Mary Joy Tabal of Southwestern University (SWU) and her teammate John Philip Duenas have confirmed their participation.

Tabal though, is still not certain what category she will compete in as she is also set to run 15k in the SRP Sundown Run this Saturday. Duenas for his part will compete in the 15k categories in both races.

Other title favorites who have enlisted include Adonis Singson and Madelyn Carter.

The 15k race winners both male and female will receive P7,000 each while the second and third placers will pocket P5,000 and P3,000 respectively. The top three finishers in the 3k will get P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000 respectively.

The rest of the top 10 finishers will get a medal while all finishers will get a finisher’s certificate. Sports items and gift certificates like overnight stays in Parklane Hotel will also be raffled off.

A medical mission across the hotel’s facade will be held after the race while a video montage from Manuel Ting’s employees, friends and family will be shown before the gun start.

Registration is still ongoing at the RUNNR in Ayala Center Cebu and at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC). Fee is pegged at P250 inclusive race singlets and refreshments. /CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
