20 world leaders attending 31st Asean Summit
At least 20 world leaders will arrive in the Philippines starting Saturday to attend the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit and Related Summits, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Friday.
DFA spokesperson Robespierre Bolivar said the following world leaders who would attend the two-day summit from November 12 to 14 in various venues in Metro Manila are the following:
Brunei – Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei
Cambodia – Prime Minister Hun Sen
Indonesia – President Joko Widodo
Laos – Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith
Malaysia – Prime Minister Najib Razak
Myanmar – State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi
Singapore – Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong
Thailand – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha
Vietnam – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc
Australia – Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull
Canada – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
China – Premier Li Keqiang
European Council – President Donald Tusk
Japan – Prime Minister Shinzo Abe
India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi
New Zealand – Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern
Russia – Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev
South Korea – President Moon Jae-In
United States – President Donald Trump
United Nations – Secretary General Antonio Guterres
Bolivar, however, could not confirm yet which of the leaders have already scheduled a bilateral meeting with President Rodrigo Duterte because of his “very, very tight schedule” as the chairman of the summit’s series of meetings.
“We are trying our best to find free time, free schedules for the President to be able to meet those heads of state in government and, maybe the UN, who may request to meet the President on a bilateral basis,” he said.
