Senator Antonio Trillanes IV dismissed as “fake news” the alleged “little narco” remark of United States (US) President Donald Trump against him published in a newspaper column.

“That’s fake news. They can’t even cite the news outfit that conducted the interview. In the first place, those senior US government officials would not meet with me if I had dubious credentials,” Trillanes said in a statement on Wednesday.

The column claimed that while onboard Air Force One, a reporter allegedly asked Trump about the senator’s recent visit to US, to which Trump answered: “The little narco met with Senator Marco (Rubio).”

Last month, Republican US Senator Rubio confirmed his meeting with Trillanes through a Twitter post. He said they discussed “US-Philippines alliance, combating corruption, and protecting human rights amid their narcotics crisis.”

The said column was also shared by RJ Nieto’s blog, “Thinking Pinoy.”

“It goes to show that this RJ Nieto a.k.a Thinking Pinoy is not thinking after all,” Trillanes said.

“Besides, a significant remark like that would’ve been captured by mainstream media and not released through bloggers, fake news websites and tabloid columns. Let us be more discerning about these things,” he added. /jpv
