The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Wednesday that it is taking “quick positive measures” to help the four Filipino seafarers who were kidnapped in Nigerian waters.

“Out of concern for the safety of our kababayans and the privacy of their families, we cannot share more information than this. But rest assured the DFA will apprise the press of any developments in due course,” DFA spokesperson Robespierre Bolivar said in a text message.

International media reports said that six crew of a German container vessel have been kidnapped in Nigerian waters early Saturday. The vessel was attacked by pirates as it approached a Nigerian port.

The six crew members include four Filipinos, one Ukrainian, and one Hungarian.  /kga
