MANILA, Philippines—A French national went berserk at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after his Filipina girlfriend did not show up to meet him Thursday night, airport authorities said.
Dominique Albert George Fremond, 55, became unruly and started throwing his things at the arrival lobby of the NAIA Terminal 1 around 10 p.m.
According to Dr. Cesar Ocampo, senior medical officer of the airport, they had to sedate Fremond to prevent him from hurting himself or other people.
Before the outburst, airport security officials said they tried to pacify Fremond as he began throwing his things after several hours of waiting for his girlfriend, whom he identified only as Michelle.
“He smashed his laptop and digital SLR camera on the floor,” narrated one security personnel.
Fremond reportedly arrived around 1 p.m. Thursday onboard a Saudi airline flight SV 864 from France via Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Since he arrived, Fremond was seen at the arrival area holding his cellphone while asking people around about the whereabouts of his girlfriend.
Airport police and medical staff brought Fremond to the medical clinic for observation but the French national apparently tried to run towards the restricted tarmac area.
As of presstime, Fremond remained in the treatment room of NAIA1 medical clinic while airport authorities were trying to contact the French Embassy.
