AFP confirms presence of US forces in Marawi, but participation limited

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur—The military on Saturday confirmed the presence of US forces here as Filipino soldiers continue their push towards the center of the city amid heavy resistance from combined Maute and Abu Sayyaf gunmen.

Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, the spokesperson of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division, however, said none of the US Forces were involved in actual combat operation.

“Yes, we can confirm their presence but their participation is limited to intelligence sharing,” Herrera said.
