Filipino killed in hit-and-run incident in Malaysia

An overseas Filipino worker died after a four-wheel-drive (4WD) collided with his motorcycle in Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia.

A report by the New Straits Times said the incident occurred at Mile 21 of Jalan Labuk around 5:30 a.m last Sunday. Based on a preliminary investigation, the 4WD driver lost control of his vehicle, sending it skidding to the opposite lane, where it hit the oncoming motorcycle of the 30-year-old victim.

District police chief assistant commissioner Mohd Azhar Hamin was quoted in the report as saying that the Filipino was driving towards Sandakan while the 4WD driver was traveling in the reverse direction to Telupid district.

While the suspect abandoned his vehicle and escaped, the Filipino who was identified as a plantation worker died of serious injuries.

Local police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward and assist them in finding and identifying the suspect. Gianna Francesca Catolico/JB/rga
