PH expresses solidarity with France after terror attack

The Philippine government on Tuesday denounced the terror attack in France that killed one person and wounded others last week.

“The Philippine Government strongly condemns the terror attack that occurred on April 20, 2017 along Champs Élysée in Paris, France,” the Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

“We stand in solidarity with France in its efforts to counter terrorism in all its forms,” it said.

The DFA also expressed “sincerest sympathies” to the relatives and friends of the police officer who was killed and the others who were wounded.

“The Philippine Embassy in Paris has reported that no Filipino was injured or killed in the shooting incident, and has advised the Filipino community to stay safe and to temporarily avoid the Champs Élysée area,” it said.

The attack happened before the first round of voting for the next French president. Reports said the perpetrator opened fire on a police van before being killed.

The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the shooting but some reports requestioned the attackers links to the terrorist group. /atm
