The Philippine Navy welcomed Her Majesty’s New Zealand Ship (HMNZS) Te Kaha (F77) on Tuesday in South Harbor, for a four-day goodwill visit to the country.

Te Kaha is the first Anzac-class frigate of the Royal New Zealand Navy skippered by Commander Stephen John Lenik, Navy public affairs chief Captain Lued Lincuna said.

“This visit by a foreign navy and the fitting reception bestowed by Philippine Navy manifest a sustained promotion of peace and stability, and enhancement of maritime cooperation through naval diplomacy and camaraderie,” he said.

Activities for the four-day visit include a courtesy call on Navy chief Vice Admiral Ronald Mercado; wreath laying ceremony at the Rizal Monument in Luneta; shipboard tour, reciprocal receptions and goodwill games of basketball, volleyball, football and tug of war.

A customary passing exercise between Te Kaha and a Philippine Navy vessel at the vicinity of Corregidor Island will be part of the send-off ceremony. FM/IDL
