SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — The US submarine Louisville (SSN 724) arrived here on Tuesday for a brief port call.
In a statement, the US embassy in Manila said the crew of the Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered submarine will participate in a series of community service projects and sporting events.
The vessel, which docked at the Alava Pier at about 10 a.m., also underwent minor maintenance with the assistance of some Filipino companies.
With a length of 110 meters, the Louisville is armed with conventional torpedoes, Tomahawk land attack cruise missiles and Harpoon antiship missiles.
The embassy said the submarine’s visit “highlights the strong community and military connections between the Philippines and the [US].”
“The Philippines is a longstanding treaty ally of the [US] with a history of partnership of more than 70 years,” it added. CBB
