The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is ready to extend legal assistance to the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) jailed in Kuwait after a local court convicted her of joining the Islamic State group and plotting terrorists attacks.
“We are verifying the report. But in any case, our embassy is prepared to extend legal and consular assistance to the OFW to make sure that she gets due process and her rights are not violated,” foreign affairs spokesperson Charles Jose said in a statement on Tuesday.
On Monday, a Kuwaiti court sentenced a Filipino woman to 10 years in jail for confessing being a member of the Islamic State group and plotting terrorist attacks in the emirate.
