MANILA — President Duterte on Monday continued his verbal tirades against the United States, calling it a “land of hypocrisy” for its sharp criticisms of his merciless war on drugs.

Addressing a group of exemplary government employees, Mr. Duterte discussed for more than 40 minutes his oft-repeated campaign against the narcotics trade, which had spawned more than 6,000 drug killings since he won the May elections.

For the nth time, the President stressed that the Philippines could survive even without the help of the US, the country’s longest military ally and one of its biggest trade partners.

He expressed disgust over the decision of the American-led agency Millennium Challenge Corp. to withhold a $434-million financial assistance for the government’s anti-poverty programs.

“America is a land of hypocrisy,” the President said. “There are 40,000 Americans killed every year, drug-related.”

He also assailed the US for allegedly supplying firearms to drug cartels in South America. SFM
