Vendors: No to transfer to new Talisay market

/ 08:42 AM May 11, 2011

At least 300 vendors of the Tabunok Public Market in Talisay City marched to the Talisay City Hall grounds to protest their upcoming May 28 transfer to the new market in barangay Lagtang.

The vendors said they feared the transfer to the new market, located a kilometer away from the Tabunok Public Market, would cost them customers.

Serene Tantog, sister of former city councilor Shirley Belleza and one of the concerned consumers in Talisay City, agreed with the vendors.

Tantog said the transfer of the public market would be a burden to consumers because it would mean an additional fare for the extra ride in going to the new market.

The vendors also complained that there was no public hearing before the Gullas Market in Lagtang was built.

They instead suggested that the market be converted into a satellite market, a school or a hospital or for other business purposes.
