Washington DC Fil-Am events to focus on US polls
WASHINGTON, DC – A series events will convene Filipino American community leaders and allies from around the country discuss issues of concern with an eye toward the upcoming November elections.
KAYA: Filipino Americans for Progress (KAYA) will be hosting these events in the nation’s capital on Oct. 23 – 24 to celebrate its Filipino American History Month’s theme,”1946: A Turning Point.”
The community forums will be led by prominent community leaders on issues for Filipino Americans, culture and collective action and political action. KAYA is co-hosting with the Filipino American National Historical Society (FAHNS) and with the support of the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA).
The discussions will include speakers such as restaurant owner Nicole Ponseca and Christopher Cabaldon, mayor of West Sacramento.
Following the Community Forum, KAYA will host a fundraiser and reception benefiting the Filipino Veterans Recognition and Education Project (FilVetREP), a nonpartisan, community-based, all-volunteer national initiative whose mission is to raise awareness through academic research and public information and obtain national recognition of Filipino and Filipino American WWII Soldiers across the United States and Philippines for their wartime service to the U.S. and the Philippines from July 1941 to December 1946.
