Filipino mental health group to celebrate 10th year

SAN BRUNO, California — The Filipino Mental Health Initiative will mark its 10th anniversary with “Celebrating 10 Years of Bayanihan Spirit” a family-friendly event that is open to the public.

The celebration is on Oct. 22, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at San Bruno Senior Center, 1555 Crystal Springs Road, San Bruno.

Filipino American journalist Emil Guillermo will be the keynote speaker. Also speaking is Miss California 2016 Jessa Carmack, who promotes physical and mental health among youth.

Activities include a Zumba demonstration and a vegan Filipino cooking demonstration and tasting.

Panelists affiliated with the Filipino community who have lived, experienced, or been affected by mental health diagnoses and symptoms will share their experiences.

Hosts promise “lots of food” and there will bean arts and crafts area for kids, where they can also play with emotional support dogs from Peninsula Humane Society.
