The Joint US Military Assistance Group has donated 24 pallets of new military equipment to the Philippine Marines Special Operations Group (MARSOG), which aimed to boost counterterrorism and fast boat operations, the United States Embassy in Manila said on Friday.

The turnover of equipment was held at Clark Air Base last Oct. 8.

The equipment, which was transferred under US grant program for assisting security forces in counterterrorism operations, include tactical Harris radios, ballistic helmets, diving gear and other items.

As part of the grant program, the Philippine Marines will also receive radio training.

“This will help enhance the communications, situational awareness and protection of Philippine security forces actively engaged in counterterrorism operations in the southern Philippines,” the embassy said. RAM/rga
