Fort Bonifacio High softball team dropped by San Francisco’s Pistahan festival on their way home from the Little League games in Delaware. ESTHER MISA CHAVEZ

SAN FRANCISCO — A pleasant surprise occurred at the recent Pistahan Festival here. Showing up in their uniform were the young members of the Fort Bonifacio High School softball team from Makati, Metro Manila.

They were on their way home after playing in the Little League Softball World Series in Lower Sussex, Delaware as Asia Pacific Champions.

At the games, they may have lost against Teams East, Southwest and host team Delaware in Pool A, but they won against Latin America.

Anna Lou Carreon, team coordinator, reported that the kids, all senior students, overcame the harrowing experience of losing their suitcases from Manila to SFO, which contained their bats, shoes and other clothing. (Team and luggage met up in Makati a week after their arrival home from the U.S., with a lot of items missing in some suitcases.)

At the World Series games, the organizers issued the team new bats and the Southwest team lent them Demarini and Easton bats. Generous Filipinos like Bong and Joan Agapito and friends from the Phil-Am Association of Delaware bought them new shoes.

Team members were Gracey Anib, Dezza Barredo, Maria Christine Bautista, Marian Davis, Ma. Angelu Gabriel, Remilie Herrero, Ma. Aleona Langga, Kristine Rodriguez, Raenavee Sabas, Ma. Charlotte Sales, Henna Santiago, Shiela Tolentino, Anne Katherine Villarante.

They were accompanied by Samuel Bulan, president, Little League Makati Chapter, Anna Carreon, Team Coordinator, Yolanda Sanchez, manager and coaches, Josefino Viray and Christian Galedo.

In the BayArea, they were hosted by Butch Magwili, Amaya Margie Brigaudit and AR Soriano of Roseville.
