Brit shot as he chased man who took his laptop

CEBU CITY, Philippines—A 29-year-old British national was seriously injured after he was shot by one of two robbers who stole his laptop while he was inside a bar on Gorordo Street here past 4 a.m. on Friday.

Police said Joe Ryan, who was staying at the Crown Regency Hotel on Fuente Osmeña, was having fun while drinking with another unidentified foreigner at the Kukuk’s Nest Bar when two motorcycle-riding men suddenly stopped at the driveway of the bar.

One of two suspects went inside and immediately snatched the victim’s laptop that was lying on a table in the bar. Ryan, police said, tried to chase the suspect but he was shot twice in the abdomen.

Senior Insp. Sandley Sabang, chief of the Fuente police station, said the wounded Ryan hailed a cab to chase the suspect, who had by then fled aboard the motorcycle with the other suspect.

Sabang said when Ryan lost track of the suspects, the Briton asked that he be dropped at the Fuente police station.

Sabang said his men brought Ryan to the Chong Hua Hospital where he had to undergo surgery.
